ALSU backs hunger strike by aspirants

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: The Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) has extended their support to the proposed 72-hour hunger strike by the APPSC examination aspirants.

ALSU appealed to various organizations, intellectuals and the youths to join hands together in fighting corruption and corrupt practices so that such incidents are not repeated in future in any competitive examinations conducted by APPSC.

ALSU also said that Govt. will be the sole responsible party if anything unpleasant happens to the protesting aspirants.

The Arunachal Unemployed Engineers' Association (AUEA) has also extended its support to the aspirants of APPSC examinations in their ongoing fight against the alleged leakage of the question papers of the APPSCCE (Mains)-2013-14. The Association also extended its support to aspirant Ujum Perying's proposed 72 hour hunger strike.

AUEA called upon the concern authority to immediately fulfill the demand of the APPSC aspirants.

 

Protest over dead children

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: All Bori Students' Union (ABSU) yesterday organized a peaceful rally demanding justice for three children, who were killed in a tragic accident at Dipu-Dett under Payum circle, and action against those responsible for the accident.

Three children were killed on the spot and another seriously injured when a dumper of BRO/BRTF rammed into a house at Dipu-Dett on December 25 last. Allegedly, the driver was inexperienced, informed ABSU in a release.

Holding two BRTF staff directly responsible for the tragic accident for they allegedly engaged an inexperienced driver that led to the tragic accident, ABSU in a memorandum to 44 BRTF Commandant demanded immediate termination of the two officials. Further, the accused driver Teg Bahadur Dorjee should not be released on bail under any circumstance until trial is over, the memorandum demanded.

ABSU demanded immediate relief of Rs.50,000 each to the victims' families under appropriate section of Motor Vehicle Act within five days from submission of the memorandum with January 5 being the first day.

ABSU also demanded appropriate monetary compensation of Rs.20 lakh each to the families of the children dead, Rs.10 lakh to the seriously injured and Rs. 5 lakh to the owner of the house damaged in the incident, jobs to at least one member of each affected family in GREF on compensatory ground failing which ABSU threatened to launch democratic movement against BRTF.

 

PPA lauds NITI

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: The replacement of the 65-year-old Planning Commission with National Institution of Transforming India (NITI) is a revolutionary step which will bring an end to the decade-long excessive centralization of power during Congress-run Governments at the Centre, said PPA president Kahfa Bengia.

"This will usher in a new chapter of cooperative federalism in the country giving space to all regions and states in policy framing at the Centre," said the PPA president while addressing a meeting at Doimukh yesterday.

"This historic step should give the North East States better scope and opportunity to ventilate their grievances about their peculiar nature of problems in the region," he said. "The success and strength of federal polity depends upon the maximum of cooperation and coordination between the central government and the federal units. The state government should take full advantage of these arrangements in placing and pursuing unique yet neglected problems with the Centre," said Kamen Ringu, Chairman, CWC, PPA.

 

MWS felicitates women achievers

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: Muskaan Welfare Society (MWS) facilitated two women achievers of the State with cash awards.

First Lady and chairperson of MWS, Jyotsna Sharma on behalf of Infosys Foundation, Bangalore handed over cheques of Rs 1 lakh each to Everesters Anshu Jamsenpa and Tine Mena in recognition of their stupendous achievements in the field of adventure sports.

The award was conceptualized when the chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha N Murty had visited the state during November last and had a brief interaction with the members of the Muskaan Welfare Society. Handing over the cheques at Raj Bhawan today, Sharma said that both the Everesters have proved once again that anyone can achieve the impossible through sheer determination and hard work.

She also said that they have become a source of inspiration and a role model to all the women of the state. The First Lady called upon the youth, particularly the girls to realise and harness their inborn potential in games and sports.

In her message to both the achievers Murty, said that Infosys would like to honour their courage and determination and expressed hope that they will accept the cheque as a token of love and affection of Infosys's.

 

Councilor urges for quality work

ITANAGAR, Jan 6: Councilor Ward No-6 of Itanagar Municipal Council has urged the PWD Division-III to maintain quality work on ongoing construction of approach road from R K Mission hospital to BSI Itanagar. In a release the Councilor felt that maintaining quality work would enhance the longevity of the road. The Councilor further appealed to the residents to cooperate with department for executing smoothly.

 

AAPEDA memo to MHRD

ITANAGAR, Jan 6: The All Arunachal Pradesh Entrepreneurship Development Association (AAPEDA) has requested the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GoI for setting up of engineering wing at National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Jote.  

In its memorandum addressed to the Union HRD Minister, the Association stated that setting up of engineering wing at NIT would help in maintaining the quality of work in the construction works at its permanent site at Jote besides facilitating employment opportunities to the skilled and qualified unemployed engineers of the state.

Further, while claiming that some structures have already been constructed at NIT Jote, the Association called for immediate shifting of NIT from Yupia to its permanent site at Jote. It would check the unnecessary expenditures for rents and other things besides enabling the authorities to keep monitoring the ongoing works.

 

ASYA for early construction of TAH

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: The All Sagalee Youth Association has written to Sushee Infra Pvt. Ltd for early start of the Trans-Arunachal highway work under Sagalee administrative circle. The Association alleged that even though existing road has been damaged due to earth cutting, the construction agency has failed to continue the work. They also alleged that for the last two years the progress of work is going on at snail pace. The association has set 30 days time to the agency to resume work and have threatened to launch democratic movement if their genuine demand was not met.

 

Traditional dance and drama competitions

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: Traditional dance and drama competitions were held at VKV NEEPCO, Yazali yesterday as part of Eknath Ranade's birth centenary celebration.

Billo Village bagged the first prize in drama competition while Poosa village and Chullyu village stood second and third respectively in the competition.

Billo village also won the first in dance competition. The second and third prizes went to Poosa village and Pitapool Colony.

The first, second and third prize winners of both dance and drama competitions were awarded cash prizes of Rs.5000, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.

Nyishi Elite Society president Bengia Tolum, Principal, Secondary School, Pitapool Chukhu Kochi and Senior Accountant, RHEP, NEEPCO, Yazali Dakken Karlo were the judges in the competitions.

 

Study tour of the farmers flagged off

PASIGHAT, Jan 6: A 21-member team comprising of WDT, WCD, UGS, SHGS and PRIs of Pasighat and Pangin blocks was flagged off today for an inter-state study tour under Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP) by East Siang ZPC Kaling Dai. Er. Dagio Magra, Tamar Baki and PP Mohanta of DRDA Pasighat will guide the team who will be visiting Meghalaya and Sikkim during the 7 days study tour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dai stated the district has vast lands for cultivation and government's thrust is to decrease the cost production in agriculture and horticulture sectors. The participants will learn how the entire infrastructure of gardening, packing, pre-cooling and cold storages has been established in rural areas for providing before and post harvest facilities to the farmer at their doorstep.

PD DRDA Manik Bui informed that DRDA is making all out efforts for economically uplifting farmers for better agriculture production. He informed that the department is organizing the interstate tour which will provide an opportunity to the farmers to interact with scientists, researchers, progressive farmers and market outlets to know about new trends in farming.DIPRO

Si Donyi celebrated with traditional fervour

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: Si-Donyi, the most popular festival of the Tagin community was celebrated with religious fervor and traditional gaiety throughout the state.

At Naharlagun Si Donyi festival ground, the festival was celebrated with much enthusiasm in presence of PHED Minister Takam Pario and Parliamentary Secretary Horticulture Mutchu Mithi and other festive revelers.

Speaking on the occasion Pario while greeting all on the festive occasion said, "Si Donyi festival showcases the rich traditional cultural ethos of the Tagin community and it is a matter of pride that despite many challenges the community has been able to preserve the rich traditional culture till date".

Emphasizing on the importance of preservation of the festival, he called upon all to shoulder responsibility to carry forward the legacy of celebration of Si Donyi festival and maintain the real spirit behind organizing and celebrating the festival.

Mutchu Mithi in his address said that festivals are indispensible part of the socio-cultural life of the people of the state. As a matter of fact, festivals epitomize the culture of many tribes and Si-Donyi is one of them. Festival provides a platform to showcase our rich traditional rituals and culture to the world and therefore at any cost the need of the hour is preservation of the rich legacy of Si-Donyi festival, he added.

Secretary of the Si Donyi festival celebration committee 2015, Capital Complex, Itanagar, Tana Dulom highlighted on the importance of celebration of Si Donyi and read out it's mythology. Others who spoke on the occasion were Parliamentary Secretary RD and Chairman SDFCCCC 2015 Punji Mara. To make the event most successful, Nyibus (Priest) were brought from Daporijo for performing all important rituals associated to Si-Donyi festival.

At ROING: Si-Donyi, the main festival of Tagin Community was celebrated at Multipurpose Hall with enthusiasm by the people of Tagin community.

Attending the festival ABK District Unit President, Mibom Pertin said that there is much similarities in the origin of the universe as mentioned in the Si-Donyi mythology with that of the Adis. He said that the festival and culture are both sides of the same coin. He, however, appealed to avoid excessive consumption of wine during such celebrations and exhorted to celebrate it in more disciplined way.

Mama Miso, ZPM Hunli-Desali Block while speaking on the occasion called upon to celebrate such festivals together irrespective of the tribe or community.

On the occasion, a CD Album, "Debe-Abo" was also released by Tinam Tayeng, President & Oseng Apum, Secretary of the LDV District ABK Women Wing.

At Daporijo, Si- Donyi was celebrated by the Tagin community with great enthusiasm, joy and verve at the Rijo ground, Daporijo today in the presence of Pema Khandu, Minister for Tourism, UD and Art & Culture and MLA Chow Zingnu Namchoom, Chairman Bamboo Mission, MLA Daporijo Dikto Yekar, Chairman APEDA, host of dignitaries and a huge gathering of people.

Minister Pema Khandu, expressing his happiness over his maiden visit to the Upper Subansiri district wished all on the occasion of Si- Donyi. Khandu said that age old knowledge on culture, traditions and customs should be passed on by the elders of the community to the younger generation for preservation. Putting a special emphasis on education of the younger generation he said hard work should begin at a younger age.

On development of tourism potential in the area, Pema Khandu advised that people should work hand in hand with the government for promotion and development of tourism sector. MLAs Chow Zingnu Namchoom and Dikto Yekar also spoke on the occasion.

 

 

Molestation attempt of teacher condemned

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: The East Kameng unit of Arunachal Teachers' Association (ATA) has condemned in its strongest term the reported molestation attempt of a Junior Teacher (JT) of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Pampoli by an unidentified person on January 4 last.

ATA East Kameng unit in a release informed that an unidentified person armed with a dao attempted to molest the teacher at around 8.30 pm in the teacher's quarter. Fortunately, she somehow managed to escape from the clutch of the miscreant by running out of the quarter. The miscreant reportedly attacked her with dao inflicting grievous injuries to her body, informed the ATA unit.

While appreciating the courage and bravery of the teacher, the ATA unit appealed to the district administration to book the culprit immediately and punish him as per law. The All Arunachal Sarva Shihsha Abhiyan Teachers Association, East Kameng Unit also strongly condemned the attempted molestation of the teacher.

Terming the incident shameful and horrible, the SSA teachers of East Kameng appealed to district administration and higher authorities of Education Department to nab the culprit immediately. It also demanded the authority to ensure safety and security of teachers to help them discharge their duty without any fear.

 

 

Pre-paid electric meter system opposition continues

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: The general public of Abotani colony today conducted a joint meeting under the chairmanship of Biri Kame, a senior inhabitant of the colony and expressed resentment over the much hyped pre-paid electric meter system introduced by power department, Capital Division.

In a joint statement, the residents of the colony vociferously opposed the pre-paid meter system which is alleged to be defective as complaints are pouring from various quarters against this system. "The meter system is defective because the rate at which meter rises is abnormal and beyond the reach of common public. It is like a plan to loot the 'Aam Aadmi'. The main victims are the poor people consisting of labourers, contingency staffs, students staying at rented apartments, daily wage earners etc," the resident expressed. While sharing his views, one of the senior most residents of the colony said, "We are not going to compromise on the injustice meted out to us by the crafty plan of few individual with vested interest."

The resident formed a committee to undertake the movement against this metering system. The committee requested power department authority not to forcefully install the pre-paid meter system in the colony without their consent and in case of forceful installation the committee vowed to strongly resist it. In case of any untoward incident the government will be held responsible they added.

 

 

Health dept. contractual employees threaten indefinite stir

ITANAGAR, Jan 06: At a time when the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has dedicated the year 2015 to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, a section of people who have been working as contractual employees in different capacities under Health and Family Welfare Department decided to take the path of agitation in the beginning of the new year in support of their long pending demands for regularization of  services.

They have given 7 days to state Govt to take steps for appointments in 1857 sanctioned posts of various categories under health department in its first phase of appointment.

"State Govt had created 2492 posts of different categories under health department. However, the Chief Minister in a high level meeting held on September 30, 2014 had finally approved creation of 1857 posts in first phase of appointments (out of 2492 posts) with financial concurrence. But appointments in the approved/sanctioned posts have been kept pending due to reason best known to the Govt," said  Kipa Kanon (Tugung), president of All Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Contractual Employees Association (AAPHFWCEA)  in a press meet at Arunachal Press Club here today.

"We are in dilemma. Most of the contractual employees have crossed the age of 40. Therefore, we have no other option but to fight for our rights for the status of regular employees," said Kipa Kanon .

It is worth mentioning here that the AAPHFWCEA is an umbrella organization of different associations under health department such as All Arunachal Contractual Staff Nurse Association (AACSNA) and All Arunachal Pradesh Multipurpose Health Workers Union. It is formed to fight for the common cause of the contractual employees under health department. Some of the contractual employees like GNM, ANM under NHM have been fighting for their rights for last many years. However, they felt embittered when they came to know that the state Govt is reluctant to fill up the 1857 sanctioned posts of various categories.

"We will take the path of democratic agitation in the form of boycott to our duty for indefinite period until our demands is met", said Nani Nacho, general secretary of AACSNA.

It is pertaining to mention here that till recently the AACSNA had been fighting alone and urging the state Govt to regularize their services.

The contractual GNM nurses serving in the various health establishments under state health department are facing immense financial problem and mental agony due to meager salary and non regularization of their service for many years, Nacho reiterated.

Likha Olley, general secretary of the All Arunachal Pradesh Multipurpose Health Workers Union also strongly demanded that state Govt must pay heed to the demands of contractual employees, or else ‘we are compelled to take the path of indefinite stir.’  

According to the data made available by the Association, out of the total requirement of 11, 463 staffs, only 3839 (including 560 contractual staff under NHM and other health progs) staffs are running the show. There is a shortfall of 7624 personnel in the department.

Surprisingly, 376 health sub-centres (of the total 584) in the state have no staff, the association claimed. It further said, there are 65 primary health centres without  MOs in the state.  

In any welfare government, particularly  in Northeast region including Arunachal the health and education departments are dubbed as priority sectors and ironically the problems are also in abundance particularly in these two priority sectors.

 

 

Awareness meeting on unlawful activities at Seppa

Seppa, Jan 06: A mass co-ordination meeting for awareness cum adoption of social resolutions against unlawful activities in East Kameng was held at Aotani Manch, Seppa yesterday.

The meeting was jointly organized by East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO), East Kameng Chamber of Commerce & Industries (EKCC&I) and Bazaar Welfare Committee.

Parliamentary Secretary, Tax & Excise, Tapuk Taku while expressing concern over the misbehaviour and negative attitude of some youths involved in criminal activities appealed the parents and elderly people to shoulder the responsibilities in guiding them in the right path. The time has come to develop a civil sense and change the mindset focusing on development rather than involving in unwanted activities, he added. He said that people should appreciate the good deeds and developmental works rather than simply criticizing it. Having separation of judiciary, one should refrain from doing unlawful activities and remain away from court cases, he said. Suggesting for closing of shops at 5 pm in Seppa town, he appealed the people to live in mutual co-existence and cordial relationship with the business community.

Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary, Women & Child Development, Karya Bagang said peace is everything in human life and called on for co-ordinated efforts of all stakeholders and co-operation from public to put a halt on criminal activities in the district. She urged the PRI members and the senior citizens to bring awareness among the people in their respective area about laws and also to pass a message to be a law abiding citizen.  Parliamentary Secretary Tourism, Mama Natung said that development took place only through peace and good services of the business community at the doorstep of the people. He appealed one and all to have good views, right action and right planning to take the district ahead towards progress.

Chairman EKSWCO Khya Safar Pao urged the people to refrain from using explosives in the river and stop hunting of wild animals. He asked the people to take a pledge to not to defend offenders or criminals and let them be punished as per laws. He also stressed on to maintain speed limit of vehicles and systematic parking in the township area.

The 13-point resolution which was adopted in the meeting included complete ban on forceful donations and selling of calendars, formation of building owners association at market area to defend the shopkeepers, meeting with clan wise leaders for non-interference in cases of arrest of their clam member who were found to have violate the law, illegal possession of arms & ammunitions be booked under Arms Act, repayment of losses on damage of government vehicle or public property. Jamoh calls for cordial relations

RUKSIN, Jan 06: Pasighat West MLA, Parliamentary Secretary Industry, Tatung Jamoh called upon the people living along Assam-Arunachal boundary areas to maintain cordial relations and peaceful co-existence which already exist among people of the two states.

Addressing a development meeting at Jampani area, Jamoh urged the local people to work in a united way for all-round development of the boundary area.

The meeting was organized by Jampani Progressive Farmers Union and attended by PRI leaders of the area and host of government officials.

The farmers submitted a joint memorandum to the MLA urging him to initiative for power supply, road connectivity and establishment of Medical Sub-centre at Jampani.

Jamoh said that proposal has been submitted to Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) for setting up Solar Panel for power generation at Jampani.

Jamoh, informed that another proposal was placed under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) to energize the greater Jampani area.

Referring to proposed Medical Sub-centre at Jampani and Sika-Bamin village, the MLA informed that proposal has been made before the health department, but it is waiting for fulfillment of some certain criteria. He suggested the progressive farmers to move for irrigation system under Farm Mechanization Scheme under Agriculture department.  Cultural troupes from Adi, Nepali, Kochari (Bodo) and Ahom (Assamese) communities displayed their traditional cultural dances. The participants also took a New Year pledge to maintain unity and peace among the ethnic communities.

Located at 15 km east of Ruksin town, Jampani area is famous for production of Rabi and Kharif crops besides cereals, pulse and oilseeds. Vegetables and raw spices supplied from Jampani farms are sold in the markets of Pasighat, Yingkiong, Ruksin and bordering Assam round the year.

Among others, Sille-Oyan ZPM, Tajing Taki, leading farmers Tabir Saroh, Oling Gao, Topon Tamin, Bokir Talom spoke on the occasion.

 

 

Lively office environment is key of success: DC

PASIGHAT, Jan 06: Opining that a lively office environment is key to success, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava called upon the officers to contribute to creating such an environment.

"Office culture is something that can be created and easy to do if you really put your mind to it," stated the Deputy Commissioner while holding a coordination meeting with the officers here today.

Srivastava said, a friendly and comfortable working environment is important no matter what your job role and offices are a prime example of this. But changing an entrenched office culture is not easy, it requires regular attendance including punctuality and sincerity to create productive and friendly atmosphere so that common people feel good to approach you, she said.

Time to time training will be imparted to the subordinate staffs to have skilled work force in the district. The quality of employees and the continual improvement of their skills and productivity through training are now widely recognized as vital factors in ensuring the long-term success, the DC added. Take advantage of situation

 

Union government finally seems to have woken up and taking strong measure against insurgency groups operating in NE region. As per the report in Assam media more than 3,000 troops are scouring a 350-km stretch of treacherous jungle terrain along the Assam-Bhutan border and adjoining southwest Arunachal Pradesh for the elusive 100-odd heavily-armed cadres of the Songbijit faction of NDFB. Search operations were launched immediately after the massacre of around 80 tribals on December 23 by Songbijit faction but the militants seemed to have vanished into thin air after that.

Army has pressed into service its 21 Division based at Rangiya, which has four brigades, located in Goalpara, Mangaldai, Baksa and Sonitpur districts. The decision to launch offensive operation against militant group will instill hope among the citizens. However police and army should ensure that innocent citizen is not harassed in the name of counter insurgency operation. At present majority of citizens are supporting this operation against Songbijit faction of NDFB. The security forces should take advantage of situation and go full throttle against the militant group.

Online admission system should be introduced at DNGC

Dear Editor,

In today’s world of information and communication technology and in the greater interest of the students communities, the authorities concerned should contemplate and think seriously for introducing online admission system at least for the most crowded and the largest institution of higher education in terms of enrolment. All the stake holders and educated people of the state are fully aware of the fact that Dera Natung Govt. College Itanagar has over 7000 thousand regular students. Because of the inadequate infrastructure and acute shortage of man power during admission time students of this college have to stand even 10 to 12 hours at the respective counters.

Therefore, I would like to draw the kind attention of concerned authorities and appeal them to kindly introduce online system for admission and other academic activities as mentioned at the earliest possible in the greater interest of students of the state because Dera Natung Government College Itanagar is the first choice of Arunachalee students from all district of the state. In many other states even the schools have adopted online system- Why can’t we introduce online system in DNGC which is the most populous institution of the state. By using technology we can solve different types of problems faced by us. Online system will also ensure better transparency and will make our system more scientific and full proof besides enhancing efficiency and convenience of students. Let us use technology for youth empowerment and for the better future of state.

The project has been halted for more than 15 (fifteen) years, even though it is of utmost importance for the welfare of the society. Dreams getting killed

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to express that the recent controversy of the APPSC exam is killing the hope of thousands of student. Every student dreams of appearing the highest civil service exam of the state but now the leakage of GS paper and suspension of 4 officials has dampened the hope of student, especially from middle class and poor family. Every parents wish that their children study hard, become officer and serve the state but unfortunately few seniors seem to mislead the potential of students mostly the aspirants. They are painting the glory of the state with corruption. Students are called "FUTURE OF THE NATION" but considering the present scenario, future seems a distant dream. Student work hard to get into the exam, however, sadly their dreams are battered by few seniors leaving the aspirants with no option but to opt for hunger strike. Few seniors and concerned citizens like Dr. Nani Bath, Jarpum Gamlin, and AAPSU are supporting the hunger strike to be battled by UJUM PERYING. I hope influential people including various Student Unions, Associations and Organizations come out in support of the brave student, who is daring to stand up for her rights.
